What Is Chiropractic? With over 50,000 practitioners, Chiropractic is the third largest health profession, used by 15 to 20 million Americans. Concerns have increased in recent years over unnecessary surgeries and a tendency to rely on expensive and often ineffective medications. In response, Chiropractic is becoming more and more popular as a natural, non-invasive, drug-free approach to health care. The growth of Chiropractic is largely due to the fact that it helps so many people with pain and related concerns where other medical treatment has failed. The premise of Chiropractic is that being in good health is our natural state. The Chiropractor looks at the whole person to determine what went wrong and why, then looks for ways to correct or relieve the problem. While Chiropractic treatment focuses on the spine and connected nerves, other considerations, such as weight, emotional and physical stress, and diet are examined in an effort to help restore the patient to a state of good health. Corrective Chiropractic adjustments are The doctor of Chiropractic is a highly trained health practitioner who has a thorough understanding of the structure and function of the human organism in health and disease. While the Chiropractors training is comparable in many ways to that of medical or osteopathic physicians, doctors of Chiropractic have more training and experience with spinal and related health problems. In a 1994 Harris Poll, it was determined that patients seeking help for low back pain were overwhelmingly more satisfied, by a two-to-one margin, with Chiropractic treatment than with any other type, including treatment by physical therapists and conventional medical and osteopathic doctors. Various interpretations can be made as to why the people surveyed were more satisfied with Chiropractic treatment. But the most obvious answer is that Chiropractic is a low-cost, high-result method of healing. Studies are also indicating that Chiropractic care is more cost-effective than other methods of dealing with back pain. With Chiropractic care, not only is sick time reduced, but hospital, drug, and other medical costs are often avoided. Perhaps you have tried a medical specialist or an osteopath and have not gotten the results you had hoped for. There may be a reason for this. Often, when pain is treated with medication, and sometimes even surgery, the problem is just being masked, rather than corrected. Since the Chiropractor uses no drugs or surgery, the pain is controlled by actually improving function. As proper function returns, the pain diminishes. Because the human body is a complex structure, progressive health practitioners of all disciplines have recognized the need to cooperate in the care of patients. Thats why well-informed medical doctors are now referring a number of their patients to doctors of Chiropractic, and more and more insurance plans are covering Chiropractic care. Chiropractic has been shown to be not only effective and less costly than other care, but also safe. Chiropractic may be able to help you with your health problem, and open up a whole new way of life for you! |
