Help With Headaches

Each year, Americans spend over 400 million dollars on over-the-counter and prescription headache remedies. These may offer some relief from the symptoms of the headache, which is the pain, but they do nothing to address the cause of the pain. Furthermore, some people experience side effects from these drugs (yes, even medications you buy over-the-counter are drugs) that are worse than the headaches themselves.

Some common causes of headaches are physical trauma, emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies, or chemical toxins. In addition,Human Head research conducted at the University of Maryland has found there to be a connection between muscle tension at the base of the neck and headache pain. Muscle contractions and irritation interfere with the sensitive fibers at the base of the neck that lead to the brain and spinal cord. This muscle tension often contributes to headache pain.

As opposed to medications that only treat the symptoms of the headache, Chiropractic care goes right to the physical causes of the pain. Chiropractic physicians locate areas of the neck and spine that aren’t aligned or moving properly. The Chiropractic adjustment, or manipulation, will work to remove pressure on the nerves caused by spinal misalignments as well as help to relax tense muscles in the neck to minimize nerve pressure. Following Chiropractic treatment, many patients, including migraine sufferers, report fewer and less severe headaches.

Of course, not all headaches are caused by nerve pressure, and Chiropractic care does not necessarily help every person with headache pain. But headaches, although very common, are not normal. Every headache has a cause. At Physicians First, Inc., if we are not able to find and correct the cause of your headaches, we will refer you to another specialist who may be able to help you. After all, your health and well-being are our primary concern!
